Bob Jordan Loses Life As Result of Accidental Fall into Dipping Vat
Prominent Rancher of the Indian Creek Country Succumbs to Scalds Received When Foot Slips and He Plunges Into Boiling Vat of Water Being Prepared For Dipping Cattle; Funeral Services Held at Montrose, Neb., and Burial at Bodarc, Neb., Tuesday.
Robert Jordan, about 40 years old, for many years a prominent rancher of eastern Wyoming, died at 9:00 o'clock last Sunday morning as a result of severe scalds received when he accidentally fell into a dipping vat filled with scalding water, at the Mark Mortesen ranch in the Indian Creek community about 9:00 o'clock last Wednesday. Everything was done after the accident to save his life, but his body was so badly scalded that he was beyond medical aid.
The accident occurred at the Mark Morteson ranch, about 8 miles from the Jordan ranch, where Mr. Jordan was preparing to dip some cattle. The vat had been filled with water and the fire had heated the water to a boilng point, it being his intention to let it cool off before using it. Mr. Jordan was standing straddle of the large vat, and was emptying a barrel of dip into the water. He had just finished emptying the barrel, and was turning around to throw the empty barrel away, when his foot slipped and he plunged headlong into the vat, his body disappearing completely it is said.
After climbing out, Mr. Jordan got on his horse and rode about a quarter of a mile to the Morteson ranch to get a change of dry clothing, and apparently did not believe he was badly scalded.
As soon as he arrived at the ranch house and he began to remove his clothing, the skin and flesh began to peel off and it was then realized that he was in serious condition.
Mr. Jordan was afterward moved to his own home, where everything was done to lessen his suffering, but he passed away at 9:00 o'clock Sunday morning.
Funeral services were held from the Catholic church in Montrose, Neb., and burial was made in the cemetery at Bodarc, Neb., Tuesday. The pallbearers were J. W. and Len Christian, Lee Yoakum, Mark Morteson and Sam Thomas, all old-time friends and neighbors of the deceased.
Mr. Jordan leaves a wife and several children. A complete obituary is not available at this time, but will be secured for next week's Herald.
bob Jordan had lived in this section of Wyoming for many years, and was universally loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a man of the true Western type, a fine neighbor and friend, and he leaves a host of friends, both in Wyoming and Nebraska, who will be genuinely grieved to learn of his untimely death.
