Bert Peet Dies Suddenly

Van Tassell and community was inexpressibly shocked Thursday morning, when the report was spread that Bert S. Peet had been found dead in bed in the rear of his store.

Mr. Peet retired Wednesday evening in good health and spirits, and the discovery of his sudden demise was made by Earl Pickrel when he came to work.

The wife, who was at the homestead, and the other relatives were sent for, and the coroner notified, who came and held an inquest. No evidence indicated that the death was due to other than natural causes, so the jury accordingly returned a verdict of death from heart failure.

Mr. Peet, who was in his 37th year, came to Van Tassell in May, 1913, filed on a homestead, and in partnership with George Purdy, bought the Ellicott store. Later he bought Mr. Purdy's interests and was conducting the store alone, and doing a good and growing business. He leaves a wife and one infant child, a father and mother, several brothers and sisters, and hosts of friends.

The funeral will be held Sunday with interment in Van Tassell cemetery.

Note: The Lusk Cemetery, and not the Van Tassell cemetery carry records of the grave of Bert Stace Peet.
