Mrs. Earle Hales Dies Here Tuesday

Mary Lelia Hales, 52, wife of Earle Hales of Lusk died at the Spencer hospital Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20, at 4:30.

Mrs. Hales had been in poor health for some time and underwent an operation recently. It then became known that she could not survive.

The Hales family moved into Lusk about a year ago purchasing the residence known as the former Congregational parsonage.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hales leaves a family of children, some of them in the grade school.

A complete obituary will be published next week.

Funeral services will be held from the Peet Chapel Friday afternoon with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell officiating.

FUNERAL FOR MRS. HALES HELD FRIDAY


Funeral services for Mrs. Earle Hales were conducted on Friday afternoon, Feb. 23, from the Peet chapel.

Rev. Lawrence Juell, pastor of the Congregational Church, (officiated) at the service and the songs "Lead Kindly Light" and "In the Garden" were sung by Dan Christian, Grace Ellen Wilson and Minette Watson. Mrs. J. P. Watson was the accompanist.

The casket bearers were Mr. Seaman, J. C. VanBlarcum, E. R. Whitman, Sam Thomas, Milo Wolff and John Burke.

Mary Lelia Finley Hales was born at Crawford, Neb., Jan. 30, 1893, the youngest child of David W. and Jennie M. Finley. She passed away at the Spencer Hospital, after a lingering illness, on February 20, 1945, at the age of 52 years and 21 days.

She grew to womanhood in the Crawford community where she attended the schools of that city, and became an accomplished musician.

On August 2, 1918, she was united in marriage with Earle H. Hales at Chadron, Neb., and the following year moved to a homestead near Whitman, Neb. Five children were born to this union, Mrs. Ida Martin of Torrington, Mrs. Lucy Whipple of Crawford, Pfc. Ernest Hales, now in the Philippines, Martha Louise and Mary Ellen, at home.

Two grandchildren and three brothers, with a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
