Death Notice

Sven Johnson, age 90, of Manville, passed away on Saturday in Casper. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th, 2012, at the Pier Funeral Home in Lusk. Interment will follow in the Dellview cemetery in Manville.

Sven Johnson, age 90, of Manville, Wyo., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, in Casper, Wyo. A funeral service was held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at the Pier Funeral Home in Lusk with Pastor Mark Lohr officiating. Interment followed in the Dellview Cemetery in Manville, Wyo. A memorial has been established to the Niobrara County Library.

Sven Arne Johnson was born in Manville on Aug. 4, 1921 to August and Anna Swanson Johnson.

He entered the United States Army in 1942 a member of Patton's 8th army. He had many stories of World War II as it was a important part of his life. Following his honorable discharge he married Ila Kettler in 1946. they raised two sons and lived their entire lives in Manville. Ila passed away May 6, 2006.

Upon returning from Europe, he did odd jobs and worked in the Lance Creek oil fields for several employers. He retired after 35 years as a mechanic for Marathon Oil Company.

Sven was active as a Manville Town Council member at various different times. He had a small ranch outside of Manville and enjoyed working with cattle and working on his farm equipment.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ila; brother Verner Johnson.

He is survived by his sons, Ron and his wife Sherry of Homer, Alaska, Monte of Casper, Wyo; grandsons, Erik of Grand Junction, Colorado and Miles Johnson of Casper, Wyoming; granddaughters, Tabitha of Fairbanks, Alaska and Janna of Washington, DC; great-granddaughter, Lydia of Washington, DC.
