Mrs. S. E. Snyder Dies in Newcastle

Word of the death of Mrs. S. E. Snyder of Newcastle was received by relatives in Lusk on Tuesday, as she had passed away at her home there early that morning.

She was a sister of Ewald HItz and Mrs. Margaret Chard of Lusk and also has several other brothers and sisters in this community.

Mr. and Mrs. Snyder and family made their home in Lusk for a number of years before moving to Newcastle.

Burial will be made in Newcastle.

OBITUARY - Mrs. Seymour E. Snyder


Mrs. Mary Snyder was born in Germany on December 11, 1879, the daughter of Merman (Herman) and Maria Hitz. She was second oldest of 13 children. In 1887 she came to America with her parents, the family taking up residence at Tulare, So. Dak.

On August 23, 1904, she was united in marriage to Seymour E. Snyder at Mitchell, So. Dak. They moved to Lusk in 1908, where they resided until 1919, when they moved to Newcastle.

Survivors include a husband and daughter, Mrs. George B. Shearer of Santa Monica, Cal.; three sons, Seymour E., Menlo H., and Leylon S., all of Newcastle; three sisters, Miss Minnie Hitz and Mrs. Margaret Chard and Mrs. Emerson Himes, all of Lusk; four brothers, Ewalt, Walter and William Hitz of Lusk, and Herman Hitz of Cheyenne; three granddaughters and two grandsons. Her children were all present at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held at Newcastle in the Methodist Church, Friday afternoon , at two o'clock, Rev. L. A. Baughman officiating. Jackson Mortuary was in charge of all arrangements.

Note: The name "Emma T." was used here, as this is the name on the gravestone, and in the census records. The name "Mary" from the obituary, is used as a nickname in this database.
