Letha (Wasserburger) Collins

Letha (Wasserburger) Collins of Garden Grove, Calif., and formerly of the Montrose, Neb., and Ardmore areas passed away Friday, June 29, 2011 at Kindred Hospital in Santa Ana, Calif. She was 86 years old. Letha was born January 26, 1925, to Herbert and Gertrude Wasserburger, near Montrose, Neb. She spent the early years of her life on the Wasserburger homestead ranch southwest of Montrose, and in 1936 the family moved to a ranch near Ardmore.

After leaving home, she worked for a short time in Crawford, Neb. prior to moving to southern California in 1946, joining her brother and two sisters who were already living in the area.

On August 7, 1949, she married Leslie Collins in Las Vegas, Nev., and in 1955 the couple moved to Garden Grove, where she continued to reside until her death. Her husband Leslie passed away on August 31, 2008 after 59 years of marriage.

Letha was a devoted mother and grandmother to her four children and seven grandchildren, all who lived within a short distance of her home. She worked at numerous jobs during her lifetime, but her main enjoyment came from being at home with her children. Her inviting kitchen and cooking skills will long be remembered by all who knew her. She was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and cooked many wonderful meals for her family, relatives, neighbors and friends.

Survivors include her four children; Terri Lynn Collins, Craig (Luanne) Collins, Rhonda Jo (Bill) Mooney and Joel (Carol) Collins; her grandchildren; Kyle (Deidre) Collins, Heather Collins, Christen (Corey) Sisler, Greg Mooney, Brooke Mooney, Isaac Collins and Abbee Collins, five brothers and sisters; Laurine Hartman, Vera Kliest, Hazel (John) Anderson, Dale Wasserburger and Dallas (Enid) Wasserburger and numerous nephews and nieces.She is preceded in death by her husband Leslie, her parents, Herbert and Gertrude Wasserburger, a brother Vincent, a sister Ann Mumm and two nephews. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life and internment will be at a later date at Montrose.
