Boy Formerly Employed in Lusk Killed in Leyte Battle

James J. Wroble, 24, technician fifth grade, formerly employed in the meat market of the Costlow & Taylor grocery store of Lusk, was killed in action on Leyte on November 12, according to word received by his mother, Mrs. Sara Wroble of Casper.

He had previously been reported as missing in action since November 12.

Born in Anaconda, Mont., he moved to Casper with his parents when three years of age and attended grade and high school in that city and was graduated from Natrona County High School with the class of 1938.

After graduation he was employed in the Safeway store of Casper for a time and then came to Lusk to enter the employee of Costlow & Taylor. He was inducted into the Army from Niobrara County in February, 1941, and was stationed at Camp Barkley, Texas, where he received training in a medical detachment.

He sailed from the States in May, 1942, and has been in the South Pacific area since that time. The last word heard from him by his mother was in October, 1944.

In addition to his mother he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Estella Coen, Mrs. Lucille Myers, and Dorothy Wroble, all of Casper, and a brother, Pvt. Robert D. Wroble, serving with the U.S. forces in France.
