Ruth Violet Mason

Graveside services and interment for Ruth Violet Mason, 94, will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2005 at 10:00 A.M. at the Douglas Park Cemetery in Douglas, Wyoming, with Debbie Rohlff officiating.

Ruth Mason died Friday, July 29, 2005 at McComb Retirement Center in Douglas.

She was born June 15, 1911, on her family's ranch at Lost Springs Wyoming, the daughter of Cody Daniel and Daisy (Howard) Shippen. Her first husband, Lee Swickhammer, homesteaded in 1930 and he and Ruth owned and operated it from 1931 to 1947 when Mr. Swickhammer died. She sold the ranch in 1948 and attended Barnes School of Commerce in Denver. She met Pat Cherrington while attending Barnes and they married in 1950. Mr. Cherrington died in 1955. By then Ruth had purchased her mother's ranch at Lost Springs and July 13, 1956, she married Clarence Mason at the Wyoming Methodist Church in Casper, Wyoming. Ruth was a member of the Lost Springs, Wyoming Bible Study Group from 1957 to 1994. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Douglas Woodbine Chapter #18 since 1953. Clarence retired from CNW Railroad in 1957, serving the company for 35 years. They moved to Manville in 1969 and enjoyed traveling until age made it too difficult to continue. They both loved nature and saw many educational and interesting things and places. They moved to Douglas in 1995 when they bought a home on south Sixth Street, later moving to McComb Retirement Center where they resided until the time of their deaths.

Ruth loved using nicknames for her friends, Funny Face and honey buns, as well as everything being "right-on".

She is survived by special friends, Cindy and Brad Stewart; Theo McComb and her extended family at McComb Retirement Center; and many life-long friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence S. Mason, January 4, 2004; sister, Rebecca Shippen; brother, Russell Raymond and wife, Julia Donovan Shippen; step-daughter, Dorothy Mason Bredwick; step-son, Donald Lee Mason; all paternal and maternal aunts and uncles; first husband, Lee Swickhammer; and second husband, Pat Cherrington.

Pallbearers will be Brad Stewart, Kurt Gefroh, Tim Janssen, and Jack Stewart.

Gorman Funeral Homes, Converse Funeral Chapel of Douglas was in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, August 2, 2005 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
