The Lusk Herald
1948

Mrs. William Ladwig of Manville received word Friday that Mrs. Emma Handka died that morning. Mrs. Handka was one of the early homesteaders in Niobrara County, having settled seven miles southwest of Van Tassell, on the place now owned by Harry Burnham.

Some 20 years ago she moved with her two sons to Chadron to make her home. Mrs. Handka has been in declining health the past several years.

She leaves her two sons, Ed and Walter, and one daughter, of St. Louis, who was at her mother's bedside when death came. One son, Otto, preceded his mother in death, in October, 1946.

No funeral arrangements had been made when the message came.
