Leroy “Roy” Canfield, age 71, passed away on August 5, 2014 at the Douglas Care Center, Douglas, WY. Roy was born in Lusk, WY to the late Charles Byrom Canfield and Elaine Volentine Canfield. Roy grew up in Lusk and loved cattle ranch life, hunting, fishing, bowling & other sports. He attended Lusk schools and graduated in May 1960 from the Niobrara County High School where he was an outstanding wrestler.

Roy enlisted in the U.S. Army in December 1963 & was discharged December 1965 as an SP4 E-4 (T) (E-4 Specialist) at Fort Irwin, CA with a Character of Service as “Honorable.” He attended the U.S. Army Ordnance Trade School, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD in March/June 1964 as well as other military schools.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Roy lived in California (Barstow, Long Beach, Ridgecrest), in Ohio (Vermilion), and Wyoming (Lusk, Cheyenne, Torrington, Kaycee, Douglas). Roy was a professional floor covering installer and telecommunications Foreman/Supervisor/Technician during his working career.

In addition to Roy’s parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Baars (Harry) and brother, Duane E. Canfield. He is survived by his son, Brian L. Canfield (Marlee) of Moreland, GA; former wife, Jennie Veloz of Ridgecrest, CA; sister, Dorothy Vollmer of Torrington, WY; brother, Kenneth W. Canfield of Lusk, WY; 4 nieces and 7 nephews; and numerous cousins & friends.

Funeral services for Roy will be held at 2 P.M., Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Pier Funeral Home, 101 West 4th St., Lusk, WY (phone: (307) 334-2306) with Pastor Mark Lohr officiating and with Mr. Willy Wilcox as hymn soloist. Military Honors burial will follow at the Lusk Cemetery, Lusk, WY.

The family has requested that Memorial donations may be made in Roy’s name to the Douglas Care Center, 1108 Birch St., Douglas, WY 82633.
