Former Moore Springs Resident Killed in Torrington Accident

Homer C. Baxter., 67, of Torrington, formerly of Moore Springs died early Sunday morning at Methodist Hospital in Scottsbluff of injuries received in an automobile accident Saturday evening three miles west of Torrington.

According to a patrolman who investigated the accident, Baxter came off of a county access road from the north and turned east into the path of an oncoming car. The truck was spun into the borrow pit by the impact.

Funeral services for Mr. Baxter were being held this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Colyer Chapel with Rev. Charles Dowell of Ft. Laramie conducting the service. Burial was made in Valley View Cemetery in Torrington.

Mr. Baxter was born Jan. 17, 1889, at Manhattan, Kan. He married Hazel Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brown, Sr. of Moore Springs March 28, 1933, at Gering, Nebr. He moved to north of Ft. Laramie in 1913 and has lived on his farm 4 1/2 miles west of Torrington for the past six years. One son previously died.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel, one son, Burrel of Columbia Falls, Mont.; two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Vondra of Lusk and Mrs. Virgil Bedell of Portland, Ore.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Homer Baxter Held


Funeral services were held April 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Colyer Funeral Home in Torrington for Homer C. Baxter, 67, of Torrington. Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Lusk, officiated. Burial was made in the Valley View Cemetery.

Homer Charles Baxter, son of William and Elizabeth Baxter was born at Manhattan, Kan. on January 17, 1889 and died April 8 from injuries received in a car accident.

February 22, 1910, Mr. Baxter married Bertha Shiner, who died in 1918. Three children were born two of whom survive. They are Mrs. Virgil Bedell of Portland, Ore., and a son, Burrel, of Columbia Falls, Mont.

Mr. Baxter married Hazel Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brown, Sr. of Moore Springs, on March 28, 1933. Besides his wife, he is survived by their daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Vondra of Lusk.

Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Elta Olson, Manhattan, Kan.; Mrs. Ada Frank, Los Angeles, Calif.; and Miss Edna Baxter, Omaha, Nebr.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
