Funeral services for Krista Diane Bruegger, 17, of Van Tassell were held December 15, 2003 at 2 p.m., in the Niobrara County High School gymnasium in Lusk, with Pastor Jason Playle officiating. Interment followed at the Lusk Cemetery.
Krista Bruegger died suddenly on Wednesday December 10, 2003, in Scottsbluff, Neb., the result of a brain tumor.
She was born April 1, 1986, in Lusk, Wyo. to Mark Steven and Marcia Ann (Lucas) Bruegger of Van Tassell.
She was raised and educated in Van Tassell and Lusk.
A senior with the Class of 2004 at Niobrara County High School, Krista had received numerous academic honors, including a listing in Who's Who Among American High School Students.
She was a member of the National Honor Society, Forensics Team, FCCLA, Teen Leadership Coalition, Spanish Club and had been secretary of her class for two years.
She was also involved in 4-H Junior Leaders, Cloverleaf 4-H Club, Job's Daughters and was a participant in the Legend of Rawhide Pageant for several years.
Krista was employed at Tuff as Nails, and was doing her school-to-work experience as a student reporter and photographer for The Lusk Herald.
Krista loved reading, music, drawing, and watching professional bull-riding. It was her dream to become a reporter covering the Professional Bull Riders and the PRCA.
Krista approached life with a high level of enthusiasm, responsibility, and a willingness to work hard for what she wanted. She loved to celebrate the little things and was an eager volunteer for community and school projects.
Those whose lives she touched will forever remember her sweet smile, her gentle spirit, her willing attitude and her strong sense of fairness.
She is survived by her parents Mark and Marci Bruegger of Van Tassell; her grandparents Bill and Billie Ann Lucas of Lusk, and Norma Bruegger of Van Tassell; her aunt and uncle Debie and Mike Lambert of Laramie, her uncles Lee Bruegger and Greg Bruegger, both of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Cody Bruegger of Van Tassell; her aunt Lori Dickinson of Gering, Neb.; cousins Aubrey and Megan Lambert of Laramie, and Alyssa and Cameron Bruegger of Gering and her godmother Dee (Diane) Shannon.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather John Bruegger, her uncle David Bruegger, and her cousin Adam Bruegger.
Honorary pallbearers will be the NCHS Class of 2004 and the NCHS Forensics Team and her family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Krista Bruegger Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Lusk State Bank; or to the Lusk/Niobrara Ambulance Service.
Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
