Fay Brunckhorst Service

Funeral service was held here Friday for Mrs. Fay Brunckhorst, 85, who was a resident of Niobrara County since 1910. The second daughter of Hardman and Annie Wilson Porter, she was born February 15, 1891, at the family farm home near Pawnee City, Neb.

The Porter family moved to Van Tassell in 1910 where they operated the only general store and post office. Fay clerked in this store and was also assistant postmaster for several years. In 1911 she also filed on a homestead southwest of Van Tassell.

June 10, 1914 Fay Porter and William P. Brunckhorst were married in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Node. The wedding took place just three weeks after the new church building was dedicated. They made their home on the groom's ranch northwest of Van Tassell until moving to Lusk in 1942. They were the parent's of five children.

From 1972 to 1976 Mrs. Brunckhorst was a resident of the Ponderosa Villa in Crawford and from March to May of 1976 she resided at Crest View Manor at Chadron, Neb. where she died May 11.

In 1927 Mrs. Brunckhorst entered into the union with Jesus Christ and His church through confirmation and holy baptism. "His word remained her joy and comfort throughout her remaining life," said her family.

The Rev. Beauford Anderson conducted the funeral from Peet Mortuary Chapel at 2 p.m. May 14. Organist was Mrs. Ruth Hahn and Shelly Solberg, Kathy Doctor and Susan Hahn sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Abide With Us, The Day is Waning."

Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jerry Scott, Bob Fancher, Mike Chard, Frank Hanson, Willard Porter, and Ernest Hales.

Memorials have been established to the Lusk Nursing Home and the Ponderosa Nursing Home in Crawford.

Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Wilson of Harrison, Mary Sides and Wyoma Hales, both of Lusk; a brother Freeman Porter of Powder River; 12 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two children, a son Alfred who died at birth in 1920 and a daughter Burma Maxine who died in 1936; brothers Forest and Ford and sisters Fern and Freda.
