Ivan Cogdill, 60, former Manville resident, died Dec. 1 in an Arlington, Wash. hospital. He had been ill with cancer for about six weeks.
William Ivan Cogdill was born Oct. 30, 1916, at Stanberry, MO., the eldest son of William Frank and Iza (Wilkerson) Cogdill. In April, 1918, the family moved to Wyoming where his parents had obtained a homestead north of Manville. He attended school in Manville from the first grade through his high school graduation in 1934. Ivan was quite a talented musician playing both saxophone and violin with his family's dance band, "The Wyoming Joy Riders" through the 30's. Later in life he became an able guitarist.
He and Irene Cheney were married June 1, 1936, and they became the parents of three children. In the early 40's he moved to Washington State where he worked in defense work. He returned to Manville for a short time and was associated with the Kettler Garage, where he worked as a mechanic. He returned to Washington and spent most of his remaining years where he had a construction business in Oak Harbor. Since the fall of 1970 he made his home most of the time at Fishtail Mont., with his sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Laverne Amick, returning to Casper several summers to work for Casper Concrete. He had been in poor health for sometime and returned to Washington in June of this year.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Brown of Marysville, Wash., and Carol Ann Kreig of Friday Harbor, Wash.; one son, Ivan Ray Cogdill of San Antonio, Tex.; 6 granddaughters and 2 grandsons; 3 sisters, Maxine Amick of Billings and Fishtail, Mont., Marian Mashek of Glendive, Mont., and Shirley Cline of Moab, Utah; 2 brothers, Bob Cogdill of Bellingham, Wash., and Don Cogdill of Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene and one sister Geraldine Alexander.
Funeral service was conducted at the Bartleson funeral home and burial was in the Island Cemetery in Oak Harbor, Wash.
