Funeral services for Leo H. Mohnsen, 91, of rural Norfolk, 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 6, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Norfolk. Reverend Shelly Petz will officiate. Burial will be in the Stanton Cemetery. Military honors conducted by Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard, VFW Post 3602 and American Legion Post 88. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Home for Funerals.
He passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Leo Herbert was born on November 7, 1925 to his parents Gustave and Anna (Simeral) Mohnsen in Stanton County, Nebraska. He grew up on the family farm. Leo served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On March 26, 1949, Leo married Monabelle Katherine Matthies in Columbus, NE. The couple made their home in Richland, NE, prior to returning to Stanton County. They purchased their farm in 1958.
Leo loved working on the farm, raising animals and spending time with his family. Also, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his children Larry (Shirley) of Lusk, WY, Deborah (Douglas) Buffington of Norfolk, and Michael Mohnsen of rural Norfolk, four grandchildren Larry Dean Mohnsen, Jr., Sandra (Aaron) Meisman, Keith Buffington (girlfriend Stephanie Flessner) and Brian (Dena) Buffington, five great grandchildren, Kayla Ann Mohnsen and Taylor Dean Mohnsen, Devin Buffington and Ashlynn Buffington and Destiny Buffington, sister Edwina Hegr, and many nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, wife Monabelle, brothers Gus, Edward and Harvey, and sisters Anna, Eldorna, Tina, Jenna and Mamie.
