Throughout the month of October John Boussu’s art will be on display at the library. John is a self-taught artist and prefers to work in graphite. A reception in his honor will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at 5 p.m.

A Halloween Pajama Storyhour will be held on Wednesday, October 8 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Stories, crafts and activities are on tap, plan to bring your children!

The Friends of the Library are excited to announce that Meghan Casey and Rocky Mountain Puppets return to the library on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. for a Halloween Reading is Fun (RIF) puppet show. The fun includes the puppet show, a snack and a free book for all the attendees. The Friends of the Library hold the literacy-based Reading is FUN program periodically throughout the year.

Paint at the library will be held on Wednesday, October 15 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and will feature a painting of the historic Water Tower. Registration is required, call 307-334-3490 to secure your spot! Children under the age of 10 should be accompanied by an adult.

“Lone Dog Road” is a new novel by Kent Nerburn. During the drought-stricken summer of 1950, two Lakota boys, ages 11 and 6, huddled in a boxcar hurtling through the prairie night as they run away from a government agent sent to take the younger boy to an Indian boarding school. What begins as a pursuit soon becomes a complex drama of intersecting lives as the boys make their way across the vast Dakota plains to the pipestone quarries of western Minnesota to replace their great-grandfather’s sacred pipe that was broken by the agent. “Lone Dog Road” is available digitally in Libby and Hoopla.

Other new fiction books include “The Gun Man” by Loren D. Estleman, “Apostle’s Cove” by William Kent Krueger, “Texas Fury” by Dusty Richards, “Something To Look Forward To” by Fannie Flagg, “The Snake River” by Win Blevins, “Reacher: the Stories Behind the Stories” by Lee Child and “When the Shooting Starts” by William W. Johnstone.

“Deadwood: Gold, Guns, and Greed in the American West” by Peter Cozzens is among new non-fiction along with “The Carb Reset: Store Less Fat, Burn the Rest, and Harness the Power of Carbs to Lose Weight” by Harley Pasternak and “The Old Farmer’s Almanac, 2026.”

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books “Molly and the Bear: Campers Beware” by Bob Scott, “Kate’s Stolen Treasure” by Miralee Ferrell, “It’s Halloween, Curious George” by H.A. Rey, “Barkley” by Rebecca Crane, “Tony Baloney Yo Ho Ho, Halloween!” by Pam Munoz Ryan and “Lucy in the City” by Julie Dillemuth.

“Pumpkin Corn!” is the theme for Storyhour on October 7, 2025. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. Call 307-334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story! Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

The library recently added the video from the “Hat Creek, A Day in the Life” celebration on September 20.
