On behalf of the Niobrara County Library Foundation, thank you to everyone who participated in the Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser. Funds have made the $250,000 by 2025 challenge more attainable with just over $36,000 yet to raise. Thank you also to FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) for helping the Foundation to reach this challenge.

The Friends of the Library present Meghan Casey and Rocky Mountain Puppets for RIF (Reading Is FUN) on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. at the library. Meghan is an excellent ventriloquist and always has her audience in stitches! Children will be able to select a book for their own and snacks will also be served. Plan to attend!

“Deer Creek Brass” will perform in concert on Sunday, October 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church, 120 E. 5th Street, Lusk. “Deer Creek Brass” is a dynamic brass quintet known for its vibrant sound, engaging performances, and wide-ranging repertoire. Formed by a group of seasoned musicians passionate about chamber music, the ensemble features two trumpets (Jeremy Huck and Cara Sommers), French horn (Mike Pryczynski), trombone (Chris Ehrlich), and tuba (Jerry Delgado). Rooted in the scenic Deer Creek area, the quintet draws inspiration from the natural beauty and community spirit of its namesake. With a commitment to both musical excellence and audience connection, “Deer Creek Brass” performs an eclectic mix of classical masterpieces, jazz standards, contemporary works, and festive arrangements. The concert is presented by the library and library programs are free and open to the public.

Shari Lapena’s latest novel is “She Didn’t See It Coming.” Bryden, a beloved wife and mother disappears, leaving behind her car, cell phone, keys and laptop as if she had just walked out the door. The luxurious condo she lived in transforms into a potential crime scene. Can the detectives find her before it’s too late? “She Didn’t See It Coming” is also available in Libby.

Rundell, “The View from Lake Como” by Adriana Trigiani, “That Last Carolia Summer” by Karen White, “Mrs. Plansky Goes Rouge” by Spencer Quinn, “The Enchanted Greenhouse” by Sarah Beth Durst, “The Pretender” by Wanda E.  Brunstetter and “An Inside Job” by Daniel Silva.

New non-fiction titles are “Are You Mad at Me?: How to Stop Focusing on What Others Think and Start Living for You” by Meg Josephson and “The Idaho Four: an American Tragedy” by James Patterson.

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books “The Dire Deeds of Doctor Gargo” by Steve Behling, “The Little Pup Went to the Market” by Cam Higgins and “The Sawtooth Legacy,” a four-book series by R. B. Moller. Among the newer picture books are “The Kindness Quilt” by Indigo Johnson, “Proper Badger Would Never Trash the Classroom” by Lauren Glattly, “Monster Makeovers” by Jonathan Emmett and “Splat the Cat, the Big Helper” by RBob Scotton.

“Spiders!” is the theme for Storyhour on October 14, 2025. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children.
