“The Virginian” will be the featured film in the “Celebrating the Cowboy” Dinner and Movie series on Monday, February 23 at 6 p.m. at the library.  The film is based on Owen Wister’s novel of the same name. A light meal will be available; library programs are free and open to the public.

Have you picked up a copy of the Niobrara Reads book, “Banditti of the Plains?” The book is available at the library to read and then pass along. In 1894, when A. S. Mercer published this angry eyewitness account of the cattlemen’s invasion of Wyoming, the book was so thoroughly and ruthlessly suppressed that few copies of that edition remain today. Historians have questioned some of Mercer’s conclusions about the Johnson County range war, but they have never controverted the facts of the cattlemen-homesteader struggle as he grimly reported them. A program will be held in March and another in April focused on this book.

“No One Would Do What the Lamberts Have Done” is Sophie Hannah’s latest novel. For Sally Lambert the words “I’m afraid there’s been an incident” mean danger – not just for the family but for Champ their dog. Most people would never leave everything for an animal, but to Sally, Champ is one of her children – and must be protected at all cost. “No One Would Do What the Lamberts Have Done” is also available digitally in Hoopla.

Other new fiction books are “Cut Them Down” by T.G. Brown, “Bound for Bounty” by Barry Cord, “The Rush” by Beth Lewis, “Robert Ludlum’s the Bourne Revenge” by Brian Freeman, “Bear Paw” by Dane Coolidge and “A Heart so Green” by Lyra Selene.

New non-fiction titles include “Barbara O’Neill’s Complete Guide to Natural Healing: Timeless Remedies, & Herbal Wisdom & Self-Healing for Every Home” by Barbara O’Neill and “Stop, in the Name of God: Why Honoring the Sabbath Will Transform Your Life” by Charlie Kirk.

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “How to Save a Library” by Colleen Nelson, “The Ordinary and the Extraordinary Auden Greene” by Corey Ann Haydu and “Kitten Delivery” by Erin Soderberg Downing. Several of the newer picture books are “Cats on Cats on Cats” by Maddie Frost, “Don’t Waste the Poop!” by Marilyn Singer, “Luigi, the Spider Who Wanted to be a Kitten” by Michelle Knudsen and “Never Let a Dinosaur Scribble” by Diane Alber.
