On September 29, the second movie in the Route 66 Dinner and Movie series will be shown at 6 p.m. “Grapes of Wrath” is based on John Steinbeck’s book of the same name and tells the story of an Oklahoman family heading to California on Route 66 during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl period. The film is rated PG and is 129 minutes long; a light meal will be available. As always, library programs are free and open to the public.

Self-taught artist John Boussu will display his impressive work of portraits, animals and more at the library during the month of October. An artist reception will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at 5 p.m. John has only taken one art class but has consulted and studied many different books for information on artistic technique, his experimentation and trial and error is a crucial part of his artistic success. Graphite is his favorite medium however, he has experimented with colored pencil, ceramics and acrylics. Plan to attend! 

October’s Paint @ the Library will feature Lusk’s historic water tower, call 307-334-3490 to register for the event that will be held on Wednesday, October 8 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Karin Slaughter’s latest novel is “We Are All Guilty Here.” Welcome to North Falls – a small town where everyone knows everyone – or so they think – until the night of the fireworks when two teenage girls vanish and the town ignites.  As Officer Emmy Clifton combs through the puzzle the girls left behind, she realizes that no one really knew them – but who would kill them and, what else is the town hiding? This is the first book in a new series by Slaughter and is also available on CD and digitally in Libby.

Other new fiction books include “Welcome to the Honey B & B” by Melody Carlson, “The Witch Roads” by Kate Elliott, “Girl Between” by C.J. Cross, “Gun Chance” by Giff Cheshire, “The Girl with Ice In Her Veins” by Karin Smirnoff, “Shadow Play” by Sara Driscoll and “The Phoebe Variations” by Jane Hamilton. “Prisoner B-3087” by Alan Gratz is among new young adult books.

New non-fiction titles are “A Colonel and a Cowboy: Strategies of the Elite” by J. Craig Flowers and “The Modern Pioneer Pantry: a Complete Guide to Preserving Food” by Mary Bryant Shrader.

The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new books “Eva and the New Teacher” by Rebecca Elliott, “Scream for Ice Cream” by Carolyn Keene and the “Emily Windsnap” six book series by Liz Kessler. New picture books and readers include “Dragons Love Underpants” by Claire Freedman, “Two Cats” by Lynn Maslen Kertell, “Hap-Pea Halloween” by Keith Baker and “A Purr-fect Halloween” by Courtney Carbone.

“Bow Tie Day!” is the theme for Storyhour on September 30, 2025. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. Call 307-334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story! Dial-A-Story is sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
