Winter Fun is on tap for the January Pajama Storyhour scheduled for Wednesday, January 28 from 5:30-6:30 at the library. Children will enjoy stories, crafts and activities!



“Red River” is the feature film on Monday, January 26 at 6 p.m. and stars John Wayne and Montgomery Clift; this is the first installment in the “Celebrating the Cowboy” series. A light meal will be available and as always, library programs are free and open to the public.
The Friends of the Library are planning a Mount Rushmore puppet show for the Reading is FUN program, (RIF) on Wednesday, February 4 at 6:30 p.m. “Faces That Changed the Nation,” written by Children’s Librarian Tina Kitras will be presented by NCHS’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBL). Children will also enjoy a snack, get the opportunity to make a craft and select a book for their own.

Sharon Sala’s latest novel is “Midnight.” Asher Kingston, a special investigator for the Texas Attorney General’s office, gets a call that his dad had been injured in an attempted robbery in his bar. He rounds up his two brothers and heads for Crossroads. There he runs into an old girlfriend who is now a high-profile computer tech with a high security clearance. Together they unravel a case long gone cold to find out what happened in the bar that night and to clear the Kingston name. “Midnight” is also available in Hoopla.
Other new fiction books are “Diamond D for Danger” by Arthur Henry Gooden, “What Can We Know” by Ian McEwan, “A Promise of Forever” by Sheryl Lister, “The Night Collector” by Victor Methos, “Deadly Trail” by James J. Griffin and “The Inner-City Homeless Adventure” by John Paul Emmanuel. Rick Riordan’s “The Court of the Dead,” book 2 in the Nico deAngelo adventures, is now available in the young adult section.
New non-fiction titles include “The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy” by Ari Whitten and “The Art of Gluten-Free Bread: Groundbreaking Recipes for Artisanal Breads and Pastries” by Aran Goyoaga.
The Lenna Lewis Slagle Children’s Library has these new chapter books “Minecraft: One Last Quest” by Brandon Hoang, “The Last Kids on Earth and the Destructor’s Lair” by Max Brallier and “I Survived the Dust Bowl, 1935” by Lauren Tarshis. Among the newer picture books are “If Animals Loved Books” by Ann Whitford Paul, “Goodnight Crayons” by Drew Daywalt, “What Color is it” by Alice Hemming and “Bear” by Natalia Shaloshvila.
“Caterpillar Crawl!” is the theme for Storyhour on January 27, 2026. Storyhour is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday throughout the year for preschool-aged children. The Friends of the Library sponsor the 24/7 storyline, Dial-A-Story, call 307-334-3274 anytime to hear a recorded story!
