Drug Stores: Scriven Drug

The Lusk Herald, January 10, 1957

Scriven Drug Closes; Willards Buy Stock

Scriven Drug in Lusk has gone out of business and sold the stock to Willard Drug Store. Thus ends an often-observed phenomenon of Lusk's Main Street--competitive drug stores side by side.

At the Herald press time Wednesday a new lease arrangement on the building was not yet complete. However, it is understood that a new business will move into the quarters in the near future.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Scriven say they  have no immediate plans, but will keep the family here so their children may finish the school year.

The business transaction means the loss of two of the community's most civic minded individuals, Mr. Scriven is a past president of the Lusk Lions Club, past commander and adjutant of Weiten-Dupes Post No. 4 of the American Legion, present junior warden in Harmony Masonic Lodge, chairman of the Retail Trades Committee of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Congregational Church building committee, a member of B.P.O. Elks, and a very active promoter of Cub and Boy Scouts.

Mrs. Scriven is a past president and treasurer of the American Legion Auxiliary, the present president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, a former Cub Scout den mother, former Congregational Church Sunday School teacher and past president of the Women of Niobrara Country Club. She has headed up numerous philanthropic drives, for two years has had the difficult job of membership chairman of the Niobrara Concert Association.

Scrivens came to Lusk in September 1947. They have three children: Richard 12, David 10, and Tommy 4.
