The Lusk Herald, June 7, 1923
Twenty-five years ago the firm of McFarlane & Collins was well known among sheep men, as they built he best sheep wagons in this part of the country. They built wagons for such men as Jacob Mill, Johnson Bros., H.L. Reed, Ed Arnold, Albert Rochelle and many others. In the construction of these wagons very few nails were used. They were put together with bolts and screws and only the best of material used. Mr. McFarlane has just finished recovering and painting a wagon for Mr. Mill that he made 25 years ago. The interior was in fine shape, every hinge, catch and screw was as he put them in at that time. Even the rolling door to the cupboard (the same as a roll-top desk) was in excellent condition, not a slat missing.

The Lusk Herald, May 28, 1936
Mr. McFarlane located in Lusk and for several years devoted his time to building sheep wagons, which were the pride of the sheepmen. These were the first well-built wagons in this section of the country and Mr. McFarlane prided himself in their construction. They were guaranteed to be water-proof, and contained a bed, cooking outfit, and the floor was inlaid with linoleum. The complete wagon sold for $285. The wagon contained but very few nails, Mr. McFarlane constructed the wagon with screws, bolts, and tacks. The floor boards were not nailed but screwed together. Practically all the wagons were in service at least 30 years, without having to be repaired.
