New Lusk Swimming Pool Will Be Constructed The Summer

The Lusk Town Council Tuesday night took affirmative action to build a new Lusk Municipal Pool. Construction on the new plunge will start early this spring with the hopes that it will be constructed in August. It will be located directly east of the existing pool.

The present pool, built in 1938, will be operated until such time as the new facility is opened. It is likely the existing pool will be will be opened in late June this year.

Estimated cost of construction is $80,000 of which half will be paid by the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Commission and half by the Town of Lusk.

Tri-State Company of Newcastle has been hired to do the engineering work with Jim Fletcher of Newcastle in charge. Paul Percival of Hat Creek, a licensed survey and graduate engineer, will dot the surveying and supervising of construction.

It was originally planned to build the pool last summer, and tentative plans were to build it near Niobrara County High School. However, soil tests there indicated that construction would be costly so the pool will remain in its present area, but will be moved back from Highway 85. A dangerous traffic situation will be eliminated.
