Slater and Neil Erecting New Business Building for Coast-to-Coast

A contract was let the past week for the erection of still another new business building in Lusk to house a Coast-to-Coast store.

Mary Slater and M.H. Neil are erecting the new building on the lot north of the Safeway Store and have given a lease to Ernest L. Beem of Edgemont, So. Dak. , who will establish the Coast-to-Coast store, according to an announcement by Miss Slater.

The old building on the site is being torn down now by Leonard Seegrist, and construction of the new building will start shortly and is to be completed by September, Oscar Bostrum has the contract.

The new building will be 25 feet wide, by 100 feet long, taking up the entire lot, and will have a one-quarter basement. It will be of brick construction. The entire front will be in show window space, with a recessed door at the center.

Dismantling of the old building takes another of Lusk's pioneer buildings that once housed the Lusk Standard, a newspaper operated by the late John Slater, father of Mary Slater, and the late Sheriff Will Hassad. The Standard was later absorbed by The Lusk Herald.

The Lusk Coast-to Coast store will be the 546th of the stores operating under this name throughout the nation, and supplying automotive accessories, electrical appliances, sporting goods, paints and supplies, plumbing materials and housewares.

At present Mr. Beem owns and operates the Coast-to-Coast store at Edgemont, but he expects to move to Lusk when the store is opened here. He has operated the store at Edgemont for four years and before that was a reporter for Dunn & Brandstreet for a number of years.
