Magoon Cheese Factory

The Lusk Herald, March 17, 1892

Wm. Magoon will build a cheese factory here this spring. It will be a two-story building and will have the necessary machinery for making up the milk from 100 cows and should be in operation by June 1. H.L. Higby has been engaged to run it.

Mr. Wm. Magoon is in Manville at work arranging for the erection of the cheese factory. They have two lots just west of the R.R. track. The building will be 24x24, two stories high. The machinery has been ordered from Chicago and it is a sure go. they will have it in operation by the first of June. It will be quite an addition to Manville and we feel proud of it.

Work has commenced in earnest on the cheese factory. The iron roofing has been received and should the weather permit the building will be completed in a short time

Travelers on Highway 1401, between Manville and Lance Creek, have often noticed the old building pictured above, north of the depot in Manville, but few realize that this building once housed a cheese factory. William Magoon, father of Bill Magoon, Niobrara County rancher and Lusk resident, and Jack Magoon, also a Lusk resident, operated the factory about 50 years ago. (Lusk Herald photo, August 17, 1961)
