Reed Bakery to Close Sat.

Reed's Bakery in Lusk will cease operation after business Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Speed and Ruth) Reed came to Lusk August 25, 1964 and have since operated the bakery. Mr. Reed said that it was becoming increasingly difficult to compete against larger bakeries, although they had  enjoyed good local support and  their support from cafes was especially good. Mr. Reed says he knows of seven other small bakeries in the region which have closed recently.

The equipment is still owned by Mrs. Zoe York, widow of the late Oscar York. Mrs. York now lives in Anchorage, Alaska and is employed at the air terminal there. The building is owned by E.L. Knight of Loveland, Colo.

The closing leaves two persons unemployed. Mike Cork, who has worked at the bakery for 27 years, under five different owners, presently without a position as is Mrs. Jennings (Bess) Ruffing who has been clerk at the bakery for a number of years.

Mr. and Mrs. Reed are planning to be here for a short time, and then will visit Mrs. Reed's parents in Riggins, Idaho.
