Lyons Purchase Midwest Building

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lyon have purchased the former Midwest Hardware building from Mrs. Ethel Gibson of Denver

Mr. and Mrs. Lyon own and operate Lyon's Department store which occupies the north part of the building. As yet they do not have any definite plans for that portion of the building formerly occupied by the Midwest Hardware, but are considering the possibility of expanding their clothing store.

Store Expansion Expresses Faith

Faith in the business future of Lusk is being expressed in the form of an expansion by Lyon's Department Store/ The business is holding a Grand Opening all day Saturday, Dec. 12, of the new and expanded facility. 

Free coffee and donuts will be served, and $300 in gift certificates will be given away. Details of the drawings may be found in an advertisement elsewhere in this issue.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lyon, owners of the department store,purchased the business in April, 1955, from Mr. and Mrs. Emery Heinz  and at the time the business was known as the Golden Rule Store. Since purchasing the business extensive exterior decorating has been done. 

Lyon's is housed in the two-story brick structure on the corner of Main and Third. 

The imposing building was built by H.C. Snyder following World War I and originally both floors as well as the full basement were used to house the Snyder Mercantile Co. After the building stood vacant during the early years of the depression of the 1930's it was purchased by George Gibson and housed the Midwest Hardware and Furniture Co. During this period a portion of the second floor was used as a joint Masonic and Odd Fellows Lodge hall. Other second floor spaces were used as offices 

The expansion of Lyon's Department Store gives that business all the street-level portion of the building except for the corner area which is occupied by The Diner. The Diner was just recently opened in its new quarters.
