Culver Brothers Form Separate Businesses Here

The buisiness of the Western Repair Shop, owned by W.W. (Buck) Culver and Lafe Culver, Sr., was divided this week, with the former taking over the welding blacksmithing business, and the latter and his son, Lafe, Jr., taking the automotive.

The welding, repair and blacksmithing business will be operated under the former name of the Western Repair Shop, and will be located in the building in which it was originally established, just east of the Safeway store on Elm street.

With it "Buck" Culver takes over the Ferguson tractor and farm implement dealership. In the transaction Lafe Culver will take over all past accounts of the firm.

The name under which Lafe Culver and his son will operate has not yet been decided upon, but that firm will remain in the present building and retains the Dodge-Plymouth dealership, as well as the Willys dealership which Lafe, Jr., has managed since established more than a year ago as the Frontier Motors.

Employees retained by the automotive division are Joe Leimser, Bill McDaniels and Bert Lee in the mechanical department, besides the owners, and "Pinky" Sheppard, bookkeeper, and Frank Chrisitan, salesman.

The employees who will be used by Western Repair are John Mudra, Tony Hytrek, Henry Hytrek and Vaughn Freeman.

Buck Culver established Western Repair Shop in Lusk in 1938, coming here from Casper, and built an outstanding repair and automotive spring manufacturing business. Then in 1942, Lafe, Sr., joined his brother here to add automotive repair to the business and in more recent years the automotive lines were added.

Major Addition To The Western Repair Shop

Construction has begun in Lusk on a major addition to Wyoming's only car and truck spring manufacturing business.  The Western Repair Shop, which has manufactured springs on a limited basis for nearly 20 years, will go into the spring manufacturing business on a mass production basis early this summer.

Western Repair Shop Now Making Playground Equipment

The Western Repair Shop in Lusk has embarked on a program of building playground equipment.

The unique equipment which was originated by Dick Henderson of Casper is distributed by the Balance Builder Products Co. of Casper. All of the present line takes advantage of children's natural desire to balance themselves. The devices are basically a modern day version of the old rail fence. In fact one line is called "Top Rail."

One Top Rail can easily be adjusted so as to allow 4", 2"  and 1" walking surfaces. Heights too are adjustable. The walking surfaces, or rail, is extruded aluminum.

Another piece of equipment is the "Jr. Tight Rope" which uses a cable rather than a rail. With this the natural instinct to walk a tight rope can easily and safely be satisfied.

The newest addition to the line is the "Road Runner." This device is merely a metal cylinder that can be rotated by the feet much as lumber jacks do with logs in a river. The ease with which the cylinder is allowed to turn can also be adjusted.

The manufacturing project was brought to Lusk by Rawhide, Inc., a group of men that recently organized the corporation for the sole purpose of bringing industry to Lusk.
