Theatre: New Drive-In

The Lusk Free Lance, May 14, 1953

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW DRIVE-IN THEATRE BY HARRISON COUPLE TO START SOON; CONTRACT GOES TO CONCERN OF DENVER

Lusk’s newest in motion picture entertainment ---the drive-in theatre will see the initial steps towards construction within a few days, according to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin “Pete” Meiers, owners and operators of the Summit theatre at Harrison, Nebr.

Contract has been let to the Service Theatre Supply of Denver, with Ted Knox of that concern to supervise construction of the theatre to be located about a mile west of Lusk on Highway 20. Knox was here last Saturday hoping to get started but the inclement weather of the day prevented.

The new theatre will provide accommodations for 250 cars, it was explained, and will have one of the latest and best types of screens. The owners, who have given residents of Harrison and surrounding localities many of the best film productions ahead of other larger communities, pledge the same kind of policy for their theatre here when opened.

Local labor and materials, so far as possible will be used in the new construction, it was pointed out. Once started, the work will be rushed as rapidly as possible. The tentatively set date for the opening in June 15th.

The name for the new drive-in will be selected in a contest to be announced soon, the Meiers said this week. A valuable prize will be awarded to the winner of the contest, in which the public will be invited to participate. Watch for details in this newspaper.
