Dinner and a Movie – Soul Food

  • Date(s): Monday, September 26th 2011
  • Time: 6 p.m.
  • Location: Niobrara County Library

Soul Food begins with the 40-year tradition of Sunday family dinners and demonstrates how those dinners are more than just a meal. Matriarch Mama Joe has held her family together for 40 years around a Sunday dinner of soul food. When diabetes hospitalizes her, the dinners stop and tensions among her three daughters start to break the family apart. Mama Joe’s grandson Ahmad cooks up a scheme to bring the family together, back to the table.

This film will be shown Monday, September 26, at 6 p.m., as part of the library’s monthly dinner and film series in celebration of food this fall.

A light meal will be served with the film and Deane Tucker, professor at Chadron State College will be on hand for discussion. This series is sponsored with funding from the Niobrara County Recreation District and the library.
