Dinner & Movie – “In the Land of the Headhunters”

The second of four films….

Famed photographer and featured character in “Wife of Moon,” Edward S. Curtis wrote and directed the silent film, “In the land of the Head Hunters” (aka “In the Land of the War Canoes”) in 1915. “In the Land of the Head Hunters” is the first feature-length film to exclusively star Native Americans and overlays three plot elements: a melodramatic love triangle; series of aboriginal battles and a range of Kwakwakawaka ceremonial performances. This film will be shown on Monday, February 22 at 6 p.m.

Deane Tucker, Professor of Humanities at Chadron State College will facilitate the film discussions which will include participants from Wyoming Women’s Center.

This series is funded in part by grants from the Niobrara Recreation District, the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Niobrara County Library and the Niobrara County Library Foundation.
