ROUTE 66 – AMERICAN HIGHWAYS is the theme for the fall book discussion series at the Niobrara County Library. Route 66 is one of the first national highways for motor vehicles in the United States and one that became an icon in American popular culture. In November of 2026 the route celebrates its 100thanniversary. The discussion series includes books that celebrate not only Route 66 but American Highways. Tina Kitras-Seaman returns to facilitate the series. Stop by the library to register and pick up the book.
Rounding out the series will be “Our Time on Route 66” by Natalie Bright, Rory C. Keel, Joe Nichols, Cait Collins and Nancy Elke. This book is an anthology of five stories and novellas that tell of good times and bad, love and heartache, from the past to beyond tomorrow – all connected by one stop, the Tower Station and U-Drop Inn on Route 66. The book is slated for discussion on Monday, December 1 at 6 p.m. This overland route was traveled by pioneers, migrant farmers and those looking for American dreams. These stories are all set on the historic route in Texas.
