Agate Basin Archaeological Site In Niobrara on National Register

Agate Basin Archaeological Site, eight miles southeast of Mule Creek Junction, was one of six Wyoming sites to be enrolled on the National Register of Historical places this last year. Sixteen more are waiting approval for enrollment.

The site located in Niobrara County was a paleo-Indian site that is thought to have been a buffalo kill site or butchering site. Enrollment in the National Register qualifies it for matching grant-in-aid funds through the National Historic Preservation Act.

The six sites on the Register are all Wyoming archaeological sites and bring to 76 the number of Wyoming sites now enrolled.
