Discoverer of Lance Creek Oil Field Dies

Robert (Bob) N. Diehl, one of the men who brought in the first Lance Creek gusher, died in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, July 11.

Mr. Diehl worked with his father on the old cable tool rig which completed the first commercial well in Lance Creek. He was a well-known man in the area as he continued to work in the development of Lance Creek as a tool pusher and driller.

Throughout his life, Mr. Diehl continued to hold royalty interest in the Lance Creek field and was a frequent visitor in Lusk. He made the Ranger Hotel his home and many Lusk residents will remember seeing him there. In recent years he has lived in Toronto and Vancouver, Canada.
