Norman Betsinger

Norman Betsinger, 79 of Pierre, died at St. Mary's Health Care Center on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Isburg Funeral Chapel with a celebration of his life following at the VFW in Pierre.

Norman was born on Sept. 6, 1926, to Harry and Florence Betsinger in Reno, Minn. He grew up in Reno before the family moved to Mabel, Minn. Norman served in the Army Air Corp and Air Force from 1944 until he was honorably discharged in January of 1949.
Norman married Donnabelle A. Melvin on June 11, 1948, in Pierre. Norman and Donna have lived in the Pierre area for the past 57 years. Norman worked as the park superintendent for the City of Pierre for about 30 years before retiring and moving to Canning. There, he continued to enjoy being a caretaker of the lawn and trees.

His wife, Donna Betsinger of Pierre, two children, Dennis (Suzy) Betsinger and Debra (Rex) Hillmer all of Pierre; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Levi (Angie) Hillmer and children Samara and Brixton, Boice (Jamie) Hillmer and son Treyton all of Pierre, Lt. Tanner (Lt. Allie) Betsinger of Columbus, Miss., and Hawaii, and Turner Betsinger (Lindley Hughy) of Aspen Colo.; two sisters, Maxine Maxsimovic of Milwaukee, Wis., and Darlene (Wally) Horihan of Longmont, Colo.; one sister-in-law Marie Betsinger of Rockland, Wis., and many nieces and nephews survive Norman.

His parents, Harry and Florence Betsinger, brother Dick Betsinger and an infant brother preceded him in death.
