Funeral for Mrs. Gurnea

Funeral service was held for Ada Gurnea, 87, of Manville on Oct. 12 at the United Methodist Church in Hemingford. Mrs. Gurnea died Oct. 7 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Carl Schutt of Manville.

Ada Hitch Gurnea was born April 1, 1889, the daughter of George C. and Almira Holtry Hitch in Audubon Co., Iowa. When she was nine her mother died, and her father moved the family to Saline Co., Neb. in 1898 and to Seward, Co. in 1905. She married Ray Appleyard of Edgar, Neb., June 16, 1909. They were the parents of three children, Leona, Lloyd and Leslie. Mr. Appleyard died in 1922.

February 19, 1924, she married George Porter of Beaver Crossing, Neb. One daughter Ethel May was born to them. The family moved to Hemingford, Neb. in 1926. They lived in Hemingford for several years and then moved to Harrison where they resided at the time of his death.

Aug. 13, 1943, she married Eugene Gurnea of Golden, Colo. They lived there for 33 years. Due to poor health they moved to Glendo in January 1975, to be near their daughter, Ethel. Mr. Gurnea died April 30, 1976. Mrs. Gurnea then spent several months with her daughter Leona Stull of Hemingford.

Survivors include two daughters, Leona Stull and Ethel Schutt, a step-son Ralph Porter of Denver, two daughters-in-law, Lela Appleyard of Minitare and Mildred Appleyard of Scottsbluff, 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 2 sons Leslie and Lloyd.
