Viola Hawkins Dies in Lusk Last Thursday
Mrs. Viola Van Connet Hawkins, 83, died March 11 at Niobrara County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Mortuary Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
The Rev. Tim Solon of the Episcopal Church in Casper officiated.
Mrs. J. P. Watson, organist, accompanied Russell Olmsted, soloist, as he sang "Abide With Me" and "Now the Day Is Over."
Casket bearers were Joe Klemke, John Goddard, Albert Ruffing, Gaylord Anderson, C.A. "Speck" Black and Rod Geisinger.
She was born to William Henry and Martha Van Connet, December 31, 1887, on a farm east of Page, Neb. She attended schools and grew to womanhood in the Page and Plainview areas. On February 5, 1905, she married William Hawkins at Page. In April of 1919 they settled on a homestead northwest of Hat Creek, Wyo.
Her parents, two sisters and four brothers died previously.
Survivors include four children, Kenneth Hawkins, Powell, Wyo.' Elwood Hawkins of Lusk; Mrs. Mary Porter of Crawford, Neb.; Mrs. Erma Harris of Casper, Wyo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund in memory of Mrs. Hawkins has been set up at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital to be used for heart equipment.
