Hattie Bernice Holbrook

Hattie Holbrook, Lusk, died at the Niobrara hospital last Wednesday, Oct. 15. Mrs. Holbrook, 85, had been a resident of Lusk since she and her late husband retired from their Niobrara Ranch just east of Lance Creek in the early 1960's.

Hattie Bernice Holbrook, daughter of George and Mary Nixon, was born March 20, 1895, in Omaha, Neb. She came to Wyoming when she was a young girl and was employed in various jobs in central Wyoming.

Hattie Nixon and Henry Holbrook were married in Scottsbluff on April 3, 1923. They were engaged in the trucking and ranching businesses. They operated a trucking business around Midwest and Douglas before ranching in Niobrara County.

After retiring from ranching Holbrooks moved to Sheridan for a short time before coming to Lusk. Mr. Holbrook died here in April of 1963. After the death of her husband Mrs. Holbrook remained in their Lusk home until she sold it and moved to DeCastro's Court. She was a member of the Lusk Open Bible Church.

Mrs. Holbrook was preceded in death by her husband, a son and daughter who died in their infancy, a brother George and sister Edith.

Funeral service was conducted by the Reverends Frank Bozart and Keith Putney Friday afternoon at Peet Mortuary Chapel. Esther Bozart, organist, played "Safe In The Arms of Jesus" and "In the Garden."

Interment was in the Lusk cemetery. Pallbearers were Everette Brooks, Alex Miller, Jerry Miller, Ab DeCastro and Gene Tyrrel.
