Jared Hope

Chet, Carol and Jared Hope passed away Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at their home in Whitefish, Mont.

Jared Hope was born July 21, 1977, in Redding, Calif. He attended Children's House Montessori and Whitefish public schools, graduating in 1996.

At Whitefish High School, Jared played on the soccer team, was a class officer, and spent his senior year on an American Field Service exchange to Norway. A National Merit Scholar, he attended the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and was a member of the University Nordic ski team. Jared pursued his interest in physics and environmental studies while at the University. Jared also spent two summers working for Glacier Raft Company. At the time of his death he was enrolled at the University of Montana. Jared's greatest joys were family outings, the camaraderie he experienced on many adventures with his friends and solo excursions with his dog, Sitka.

Chet, Carol, and Jared are survived by Chet's brothers Arie and Thys; Carol's sister Joan Segna and brother Jim Mottoh; the Hope children Kendra and husband Paul of Whitefish, Tyler, attending Carroll College in Helena, and Brian, attending the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma; and a grandson Christopher.

Memorial services for Chet, Carol and Jared Hope were held at Memorial Field, Whitefish on Saturday, Feb. 16. A reception followed the service at Muldown School. Following cremation, a private family service was held.

All contributions will be granted to Muldown School or the Whitefish Bike Path Project.
