Nicholas "Al" Alphonse Hourt

Last rites held For Al Hourt

Funeral service for Nicholas Alphonse Hourt was held the morning of March 17 at the Church of the Nativity in Harrison, and burial was in the Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Hourt died at his home in Harrison on March 13.

Father Joseph Hargarten, pastor of the Church of the Nativity, said the funeral Mass, with Louise Serres as organist. Mrs. Virginia Coffee sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Lord's Prayer." Altar boys were Bobby Dunn, Glen Eberspecher, and John Schaefer.

The pallbearers, who were all grandsons of Mr. Hourt, were Chuck and LeRoy Parmely, Jeff Ross, Mike Anderson, and Kenny and Skipper Dunn. Honorary pallbearers were Tress Powell, Art Dunn, Lester Dunn, Vernon Dunn, Everett Parmely, John Broderick, Adolph Zurcher, Rudy Hartman, and Rude Geike.

Mr. Hourt was born November 28, 1892, in Rambrough, Luxembourg, to Henry and Elizabeth Brandenbourg Hourt, one of ten children.

In 1912 he came to the United States to visit his brother John who lived northwest of Harrison. During this time Mr. Hourt decided to make America his home. He worked for his brother John for a time; later he worked for Charlie Henry and the late Virgil Kennedy.

On July 23, 1930, Mr. Hourt and Clara Frances DeBock were married. Six daughters and three sons were born: Elizabeth Marie (Betty) Morava of Ulysses, Kan.; Cathryn Rose Ross of Columbia Falls, Mont.; Margaret Ann Dunn, Harrison; twins, Leona Marlene Anderson, Harrison, and Verona Arlene Parmely of Casper, Wyo.; Linda Lee Fenster of Kent, Wash.; Henry Leo, Cheyenne, Wyo.; Joseph Nicholas of Crawford; and Patrick John of Harrison.

In the Spring of 1938 Mr. Hourt and his family moved to the Zurn place northwest of Harrison where he farmed and ranched until 1952. Then they moved to the Al Jordan place east of Harrison until the fall of 1955 when Mr. Hourt bought the Bud Bourret house in Harrison where he was living at the time of his death.

Mr. Hourt worked at the Harrison Locker Plant and was the janitor at the Harrison Grade School until he was forced to resign because of ill health.

In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Hourt is survived by 29 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Coffee, Torrington; Mrs. Gene Kriz, Chadron; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ross and Jeff, Columbia Falls, Mont.; Mrs. Roger Fenster, Kent, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Morava and Rhonda, Mrs. and Mrs. Dave Morava and Son, Dan Morava, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Davis, all of Ulysses, Kan.; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Parmely and family, Casper; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hourt and family, Cheyenne; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hourt and family, Crawford; Mr. and Mrs. John Hourt, Mrs. Frances Mack, Mrs. Mary Hughes, Mrs. Flora Larson and Mrs. Emil Hourt, all of Casper.

A memorial in Mr. Hourt's name has been set up at the Sioux National Bank in support of the Ambulance Fund.
