Former Rural Teacher Dies

George L. Jackson, age 85, teacher at Hoosier School south of Lost Springs in the early 1920's died at his Kearney, Neb. home Oct. 6.

Jackson, who homesteaded in the Bear Creek area north of Douglas, met Mildred Hungerford of Lost Springs while teaching school. They were married and she survives him.

Jackson, born in Custer County, Nebraska, had been a resident of Kearney for 38 years. He was owner of the Pioneer Publishing Co., until his retirement in 1970.He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, World War I Barracks and the T.P.S. he was a World War I veteran, having served in the U. S. Navy.

Jackson's death was brought to the attention of the Herald by Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Wright of the Lost Springs community. His daughter, Georgia Van Ornam lives in Melbourn Beach, Fla.
