Ronald James Kuhn

Funeral services for Ronald James Kuhn, age 61, of Laramie, Wyo., were held January 28. He died January 24, at his home.

Mr. Kuhn was born December 25, 1932, in Mandan, N. D. to Paul and Gertrude Brown Kuhn.

After attending parochial school, he graduated from Fort Yates High School on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. He received his bachelor's degree in English and Music Education from Valley City State Teachers College in Valley City, N.D. He started both the vocal and instrumental music programs at St. Catherine's School. After graduation he taught music in the Napoleon, N.D. public school system until 1956. He then taught secondary instrumental and vocal music in Bowman, N.D. for the next three years.

He was also music supervisor for the Middle Park School district in Grand County, Colo. and received his master degree in Music Education at the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1964.

Mr. Kuhn's teaching career in Wyoming included band director at Cheyenne Central High School until 1968, assistant band director at the University of Wyoming, instrumental clinician which includes clinics and festivals in Lusk for many years and eventually Director of Bands at UW for 10 years. From 1979 to 1993, he continued to teach applied music education classes, advise, direct and perform ensembles and served on University committees and boards. He retired in 1993 with the rank of Professor Emeritus, and was the inaugural recipient of "The Wyoming Music Educator of Wyoming" Award.
