Grace Elizabeth Kay

Memorial services for Grace Elizabeth Kay, 86, will be held Friday, March 14, 2003, 10 a.m., at Colyer Funeral Home Chapel in Torrington. Cremation has taken place.

Grace Kay died March 7, 2003, at Goshen Care Center in Torrington.

Grace was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Douglas, Wyo., the daughter of Samuel and Georgia (Mattingly) Belwood. The family moved to Colorado, where Grace received her education in North Denver. She went on to graduate from Colorado State Teacher College (now the University of Northern Colorado) in 1940 with a Bachelor of Arts. She then taught at Monument and Rifle, Colo.

She married Ross D. Kay on May 23, 1942, at Wee Kirk of Heather at Forest Lawn Park in Los Angeles County, Calif.

The couple lived briefly at Glendale, Calif., until 1945 when they moved to Greeley, Colo. They purchased a farm seven miles east of Greeley, where they lived for the next 25 years. During that time, all five of their children were born.

In 1968 they moved to Lusk, where Grace became the Extension Home Economist in Niobrara County for the University of Wyoming.

She retired in 1979, and the couple moved to Lingle, Wyo., where they purchased land and built a house.

Grace was a member of the National Association of Extension Home Economists and of AARP. She was Epsilon Sigma Phi and Alpha Sigma Alpha.

She is survived by two sons, Tom Kay of Richland, Wash., and Kenneth Kay of Cooper City, Fla., and three daughters, Lou Ellen Kay of Las Cruces, N.M., Mary E. Kay McDonald of Grand Junction, Colo., and Roberta Kay Gray of Las Cruces, N.M., 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one sister.
