Helen F. Lincoln

Services for Helen F. Lincoln, age 83, were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Peet Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Scott Grimshaw officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Lincoln died Thursday, April 13, 1989, in the Niobrara County Memorial Nursing Home.

Helen Lincoln was born December 3, 1905 in Naponee, Nebraska, one of the 11 children of Ambrose and Ellen Trimmer.

She grew up on a farm in eastern Nebraska, and upon graduation from High School attended Normal School where she received a teaching certificate. She taught for awhile in western Nebraska and on April 20, 1926 was united in marriage to Aaron Lincoln in Wheatland, Wyoming. They resided for awhile in Cottier, Wyoming and then moved to a farm in the Flattop area. In 1939 they moved to Lusk, where she resided until her death.

They were the parents of 7 children. One infant son Ronald died at the age of 5 weeks.

In 1950 she went to work for the late Dr. Reckling at the Spencer Hospital and worked there until his death and the closure of the hospital. Then she went to work for her daughter and son-in-law at the Pioneer Court until she retired in 1981.

She was a talented and creative seamstress and designer and was always doing things for her family as well as friends. She was a woman of uncommon courage and had the ability to face hardships with dignity.

Her family was her main interest in life and her love and devotion to all of them will never be forgotten. As one daughter-in-law said, "she was such a terrific person and never knew how great she was."

She left her family with not only a sense of great loss but also with a legacy of love and an example of how to live with uncomplaining dignity and grace.

She attended the First Baptist Church and she loved the people there very much.

She is survived by five children: Betty Allen of Lusk, Shirley Smith of Westminster, Colorado, Gerald Lincoln of Laramie, Larry Lincoln of Thermopolis, and Linda Cowden of Livonia, Michigan; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her middle son Keith in August of 1984, a loss from which she never fully recovered.

We all love you, Mom, and we will always miss you.
