Larry Ray Lincoln

Larry Ray Lincoln, age 66, of Basin passed away on April 3 in Thermopolis. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. April 9, at Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk, with Pastor Tom Strock officiating. Interment followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Lincoln was born May 13, 1938, the son of Helen and Aaron Lincoln in the family home at Flat Top. In 1939, the family moved to Lusk where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Lusk High School in 1956. Following graduation, he worked on the John Sturman ranch until the fateful accident that left his life forever changed.

According to his friends there was no one more fun to be around and according to his family, his life was plagued with accidents since he was a small child. Larry's love in life was rodeo. In August 1961, he signed on to ride a bucking horse at the Harrison Rodeo. He was thrown from the horse and received a trauma blow to his head. Many of his friends who were there said they never could have believed he could leave the arena alive. Larry remained in a coma for many weeks with his family keeping a 24 hour vigil. When he did wake up it was the beginning of months of therapy. He never made a full recovery.

Larry was preceded in death by both his parents and one brother, Keith Lincoln.

He is survived by three sisters; Betty Allen of Lusk, Shirley Smith of Westminster, Colo., and Linda Cowden of Rock Hill, S.C.; one brother, Gerald Lincoln of Onalaska, Wis. and 11 great nephews and great nieces. He also leaves a host of friends and acquaintances.

His unfailing good grace in the face of his injury has been an inspiration to us all. He will be deeply missed, but his family knows he is in a better place.

A memorial has been established to the Niobrara Senior Center in Lusk.
