Barry Lee Markwardt

Barry Lee Markwardt died at his home in Sturgis on Friday, April 21, 1995, at the age to 47.

He was born at Cando, N.D., to Awald and Bernice (Jennum) Markwardt. He lived on a farm in North Dakota going to school at Egeland and later at Cando. He served in the U.S. Marines in Hawaii during the Vietnam Conflict. He has been living in Sturgis.

Survivors include his parents of Gladstone, N.D.; three sisters, Margorie Holweger of Grand Forks, N.D., Cindy Christenson of Grand Forks, and Penny Holien of Fargo, N.D.; three brothers, Jack of Leveland, Tex., David and Don of Douglas, several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Graveside services were held at the Interment Center at the Black Hills National Cemetery on Tuesday, April 25, 1995, with Reverend Howard Smith officiating. Burial with Military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard followed. Kinkade Funeral Chapel of Sturgis was in charge of arrangements.
