Lois Martin

Services for Lois Martin, age 75, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1989 in the Congregational United Church of Christ in Lusk with Mark Lohr officiating. Burial will follow in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin died Friday, Sept. 15, 1989, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette. She was transferred there Sept. 9 from the Niobrara Hospital District.

She was born Feb. 13, 1914, at the Grand Island, Neb., the daughter of John and Elsie Hull Thompson. The family moved to Wood Lake, Neb., in 1918 where they lived until 1928, when Lois's father died.

Lois attended school at Whiney, Neb., and later at Chadron State College in Chadron, Neb. She taught rural school for two years and then taught in Alliance, Neb. for five years. After that she spent the rest of her working life working for the Bureau of Reclamation in Casper; Tracy, Calif., Burley, Idaho; and finally Denver. She then retired and moved to Lusk in 1979.

In 1969, she married Ivan Martin who died in 1979.

She was a member of the Congregational Church, The Niobrara Chapter #26 Eastern Star and the Republican Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Survivors include one brother and his wife, Russell and Mary Jo Thompson of Lusk; four nephews, Cody Thompson of Lusk, Leif Thompson of Champaign, Ill., Tom Thompson of Whitney, Neb., and Link Thompson of Gordon, Neb.; one niece, Roxanne Sharp of Lusk; and 12 grand nieces and nephews.
