Services for Nels Mariegard Are Held Saturday

Funeral services for Nels Mariegard, 71, of Keeline, who died March 18 at the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne following a lingering illness, were held Saturday afternoon from the Peet Chapel with Rev. David Becknell officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

A male quartet composed of Donley Unruh, G. L. Pfeifer, Roy Elders and Beryl Fullerton sang "The Riches of Love" and "Going Down the Valley." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist.

Pallbearers were Leo Heins, Frank Mahnke, Jim Smith, Wilmer Baars, David Poage and Harvey Poage.

Nels Larsen Mariegard was born October 9, 1886 in Vendepel, Denmark, the youngest son of Jordan and Ann Mariegard.

Early in 1908 he came to the United States and made his home with a relative in Fremont, Nebr., and in the fall of 1908 homesteaded near Keeline.

He became a naturalized citizen on June 24, 1914 in Lusk and during the year 1918 served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Katrine Anna Larsen November 10, 1920 at Hot Springs. They were the parents of three children, Evelyn, Gary and Caroll, all of whom survive. He worked for many years as a carpenter retiring from this trade in 1951.

Survivors include his wife and three children and numerous other relatives.
