Lyle Edsel McConaughey

Lyle E. McConaughey, 78, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away Sunday Nov. 11, 2001 at the Phoenix Baptist Hospice Center after a three year battle with cancer.

Lyle was born in Hay Springs, Neb. on July 1, 1923. He joined the Army Air Corp in 1944 and served until 1946. At that time, he returned home to work on the family farm with his father. He married his sweetheart, Cleo Faye Schupbach on May 4, 1947 and continued farming in the Alliance, Whitney and Chadron areas. He moved to the Phoenix, Ariz. in the early 1970's, where he enjoyed the Arizona weather.

Lyle was active in Marry Makers, American Legion Post #29 and the Los Olivis Senior Center, where he enjoyed his passion for dancing and his many friendships. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile and his great coffee-making abilities.

Survivors include his fiancé, Fran Broadbent of Phoenix, two sons, Roger of Mead, Colo., and Jack and wife Kathy of Lusk; daughter DeAnne Hensel and husband Dean of Wheatland; two grandchildren, Keith Hensel of Grand Junction, Colo. and Angie Hensel of Omaha, Neb., sister-in-law Carmen McConaughey of Rapid City, S.D. along with nieces and nephews and a wonderful host of friends..

He is preceded in death by his wife Cleo, mother Emeline, father Omer Kem and brother Stanley.

A memorial service was held on Nov. 14, 2001 at the Camelback Sunset Chapel, 301 W. Camelback Rd., Phoenix. Graveside services were held at Rushville, Neb. on Nov. 17, 2001.
