Al McKinnon dies after being thrown from horse

Al McKinnon, Lusk who would have been 33 Saturday, died in a Cheyenne Hospital Friday night from injuries received earlier that evening when he was thrown from a horse. McKinnon, along with Mrs. McKinnon, the McKinnon children and Loren Isbel, was at the Fullerton Arena practicing roping. The mare he was breaking to rope off of is still rank and was fighting the roping box when the accident occurred.

Mrs. McKinnon went to the ranch home of Melvin Thayer a short distance away, and from there the Lusk ambulance was summoned. He was brought to the Lusk hospital and then taken on to Cheyenne.

Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Peet Mortuary Chapel with The Rev. Frank Bozart presiding.

Organist was Mrs. Minerva Watson and Tim Johnson sang "How Great Thou Art." Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery with Harmony Masonic Lodge conducting rites.

Casket bearers were Loren Isbel, Bud Reed, Bebe Reed, Walt Reed, Richard Barnette, and Cody Clark.

Allan D. McKinnon was born July 17, 1943 in Craig, Colo., the son of Allan Donald and Nora House McKinnon.

He and Michele Oberwager were married Sept. 3, 1966, at Baggs, Wyo. He graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1970 with a B.S. degree in vocational agriculture and taught vocational agriculture in Newcastle for four years. He has been employed as assistant manager at Ranchers Feed Service in Lusk since June, 1974.

He is survived by his widow Michele; three children, Clinton, Yvonne, and Joleen of the family home; his mother Mrs. Nora McKinnon, of Cottonwood, Ariz.; five sisters, Mrs. Earl (La Veta) Martin of Baggs, Mrs. Will (Donna) Rahfield of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Marilyn Kickman of Goodman, Mo., Mrs. Tim (Alice) Stack of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Alrena McKinnon of Craig, Colo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
